ICF: INSULATED CONCRETE FORMS

One of the technologies we work with is Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF).

ICF uses insulating forms around a reinforced concrete core, creating a substantial wall assembly that combines structural concrete with continuous insulation.

For homeowners interested in higher-performance construction, this can provide an attractive alternative to conventional wall construction.

ICF ISN’T THE ONLY OPTION

Not every project needs traditional ICF.

The right construction system depends on the site, architectural design, structural requirements, budget and homeowner priorities.

For some projects, traditional reinforced concrete construction may be appropriate.

For others, ICF may be an excellent solution.

For others, an insulated composite concrete prefabricated wall system may provide a more practical balance between insulation, construction speed and cost.

Fine Finish has worked with ICFp — Insulated Composite Concrete Prefabricated Wall Panels — as an alternative to traditional ICF.

These factory-made panels incorporate concrete and EPS insulation and can provide an insulated wall solution while using a conventional reinforced-concrete column-and-beam structural system. Fine Finish’s documented Vista Grande project describes ICFp as a more affordable and somewhat faster alternative to traditional ICF.

OUR ANTEQUERA, BOHOL FARMHOUSE

One of our projects demonstrates this philosophy particularly well.

The Antequera, Bohol farmhouse was designed around a countryside lifestyle, with a large open-plan living and kitchen area, spacious bedrooms, outdoor access and a forest-like environment on a large property.

The project used insulated composite walls made with concrete and EPS, large windows for natural light and cross-ventilation, higher-than-standard ceilings and a high-pitched A-frame roof with a larger air cavity above the ceiling.
